Eastern World Briefing

Write for us

We welcome thoughtful pitches on eastern histories, ideas and cultural exchange. A strong proposal starts with a clear question, a defined scope and a reason the subject will interest a general reader.

What to pitch

We consider explanatory essays on ideas, belief, language, exchange and material culture. Proposals should offer a distinct angle and avoid treating a region, religion or community as if it had one unchanging voice. We are interested in careful comparisons when the differences matter as much as the similarities.

A useful proposal

Tell us the working title, central question, places or periods involved, and the main point a reader should take away. Briefly describe the references or source material you expect to use and note any uncertainty or limits. Please mention if the piece has appeared elsewhere or is being considered by another publication.

Send a pitch

Send proposals through the Contact page, selecting the editorial option and including your pitch in the message. A proposal is not a commission, and we may ask for clarification before making a decision.
